Vision & Values

People invest their lives in clearly defined visions. It has been said that “Vision is a mental image of what could be, fueled by the conviction that it should be.” (Andy Stanley) Values then come alongside to guide as the means through which a vision is carried out. Together, vision and values combine to give people a cause to rally around and goal to realize as one!

Consider the following Vision & Values for our church…

Vision Statement:

Jesus Christ… to Know Him, Love Him, Serve Him, Share Him!

Values:

1) Know Him deeply through salvation and study of His Word.

See John 3:16-17; Ephesians 3:14-21; 2 Timothy 3:10-17

2) Love Him passionately through worship.

See Psalm 29:2; John 4:23-24; Romans 12:1-2

3) Serve Him with excellence through serving others.

See Matthew 25:31-46; Mark 10:43-45; Colossians 3:17, 23

4) Share Him sacrificially through small group communities.

See Acts 2:42-47; Romans 12:9-18

These four values are realized best through relationships set in irresistible environments and unforgettable experiences where our best gifts are given through called and equipped servant leaders.

Target: All people should be engaged in the vision and values of the church. However, the “style” is often more specific to a younger target audience. This generation has been less reached for Christ than any generation before. So, how we communicate is often the difference in effectively communicating what we vision for and value.

Promotion: Vision and values should be promoted from the parking lot, the pew and the platform! Every social media outlet (website, Facebook, Twitter, email, lobby monitors, worship screens, church sign and more!) should be utilized in promotion. Most importantly, servant leaders should live out and promote them person to person!

What’s in a name?

Names matter. They have a way of defining us to outsiders and motivating us as insiders. Names soon come to be associated with the people they are attached to as they do life among a particular people group.

The “Church of God” is the greater name of God’s people gathered around the globe to carry out His Great Commission. Local branches of this family tree often adopt names for the purpose of more clearly defining and carrying out a specific vision in a unique culture and setting.

With this in mind, LEX1 CHURCH is a simple, relevant name for the Church of God in the greater Lexington area. It is memorable and repeatable. More importantly, it speaks of the unity that is to define the family of God, His church.

In John 17 we read, “…that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one – I in them and you in me – so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.”(NIV)

We are one as the family of God!

Jesus Christ – Know Him, Love Him, Serve Him & Share Him!

The incorporation name of the Church remains the same for legal purposes, First Church of God, Lexington, KY.
